HOUSTON – A driver who was arrested after leading Houston police on a high-speed chase which ended in southeast Houston early Thursday had a rather bold, bizarre reason for why he ran.

An HPD unit attempted to pull over an Isuzu Axiom for speeding on the North Loop East at Wayside around midnight, but the driver refused to stop.

The driver accelerated and headed westbound on the loop, then southbound on the North Freeway and kept going to I-45. He continued southbound on the Gulf Freeway all the way to Telephone Road, where he exited and began to run through every red light he came upon.

The vehicle was overheating and smoking during most of the chase.

The driver -- who was throwing things out the window -- eventually lost control of the vehicle near Briefway and ran into a yard, according to police.

He hopped out and attempted to flee on foot, but officers were hot on his tail and caught him quickly.

Police said the driver had a small amount of cocaine and other narcotics in his possession.  They also discovered he had a few outstanding warrants for minor traffic tickets

When police asked him why he ran, he told them he “felt like it was the thing to do.”

He now faces possession of narcotics and felony evading charges.
