HOUSTON—A teenager changing a flat tire was shot by a group of suspects who robbed him of his wallet, police said early Monday.

It happened on Jensen Drive at Parker Road around 2 a.m., according to officers with the Houston Police Department.

Police said Eric San Miguel, 17, parked his vehicle after getting the flat, and he was shot as he went to change it.

“A group of unknown suspects in a dark colored vehicle four-door vehicle approached him, and at this point, it looks like robbery was the motive,” said HPD Detective R. Gray. “My complainant was shot several times and was transported to the hospital. As of now his condition is unknown, but he is expected to survive.”

The victim continued to recover in Ben Taub Hospital Tuesday.

The suspects fled the scene before police arrived.
