HOUSTON -- Authorities descended on a home filled with suspected illegal immigrants Tuesday afternoon. Then, just a few hours later, they stumbled upon a grow house next door.

The discoveries stunned neighbors in the north Houston neighborhood located in the 1100 block of Sawgrass Ridge Lane.

Tuesday evening investigators said they discovered a “sophisticated marijuana operation.” Inside the house authorities found $990,000 worth of pot plants and equipment, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Earlier in the day, authorities came to the neighborhood for what started as a stolen truck situation. They soon found a stash house and arrested 21 illegal immigrants. Officials said 16 men and five women from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico were taken into custody.

Officials say this investigation is ongoing. Stay with KHOU.com for more on this developing story.
