HOUSTON -- The mother of a young man who was shot dead in a southwest Houston apartment late Monday believes her son was “set up” despite some claims that he may have been involved in a crime.
It was around 10:30 p.m. when the 18-year-old went to the Bennington Square Apartments on W. Bellfort near Bob White, according to the Houston Police Department. When he walked in, an altercation occurred, and he was shot dead.
The person who lives in the apartment was also wounded and was questioned by police after being released from the hospital.
Initially, the incident was reported as a home invasion, but police said they hadn’t yet determined a motive for the shooting.
The dead teen’s mother arrived at the scene and spoke with the media, identifying the young man as Billy Wilson.
“I don’t know why someone would take his life,” said Jacqueline Fair. “Why would you take his life? What was the reason for you taking his life?”
Police said they were working to determine if Wilson was an innocent victim or if he was a suspect who came face-to-face with a man defending his property.
“I don’t know what to say,” said Fair. “That was my only son, and I just don’t know what to say. That was my only son, and I hope whoever his killer is, they find him and bring him to justice. That’s all I pray for.”
