HARRIS COUNTY, Texas—Quick-thinking witnesses helped deputies track down the suspect in a hit-and-run that seriously injured a cyclist late Tuesday.

The incident happened around 9:20 p.m. on FM 1960 near Falcon Road.

Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said a 25-year-old man was riding his bike along the road’s right lane when a group of vehicles approached from behind. A silver Ford pickup changed lanes and hit the young man, witnesses said.

”The driver of the truck fled the scene westbound,” said Accident Investigator Dan Drake.

Witnesses managed to get the suspect’s license plate number, which led deputies to his home.

”One of our K-9 officers was able to locate the driver at his residence,” said Drake. “He appeared to be unresponsive in the driver’s seat.”

Hoang Nguyen was pulled from the truck and taken into custody, deputies said. Deputies impounded the pickup, which had front-end damage.

The cyclist’s condition was not known as of Wednesday morning.

”The male was sent to the hospital by Life Flight in serious condition,” said Drake. “He suffered some major injuries.”
