HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Deputies said a northwest Harris County man was rushed to the hospital after he was shot in the chest by a home invader.

It happened late Monday in the 2700-block of S. Camden Parkway near Walters, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the victim returned home and was followed to the front door by the suspect, who tried to force his way in. The homeowner managed to get the door shut, but the suspect then opened fire – shooting the homeowner through the door.

The victim was sent to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. Deputies said despite the nature of his injuries, the homeowner was expected to make a full recovery.

The man’s wife and teenage kids were inside the home at the time of the shooting, but no other injuries were reported.

After the shooting, the robbery suspect fled the scene in a blue or silver Chevrolet Impala.
