HARRIS COUNTY, Texas—The owner of a north Harris County auto salvage yard opened fire on a pair of burglary suspects he said were trying to steal rims from his property overnight.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at A-Plaza Auto Parts on Hill Road at Scoregga Lane, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The yard’s owner said he had been staying on the property because of recent trouble with items being stolen.

When he spotted Tuesday night’s suspects, he fired several shots at them but didn’t think he hit anyone, but police said one of the suspects later turned up at the hospital.

“We couldn’t tell, we just saw shadows,” said the business owner, who didn’t want to be identified. “If someone’s breaking into your place, and you don’t know what their intentions are—you don’t know if they’re armed or if they’re there to kill—you don’t know what’s in their minds...”

The injured suspect was listed in stable condition. The other suspect was still on the run as of Wednesday morning, deputies said.
