Young woman taken by Life Flight after crashing into 18 wheeler

HOUSTON-  A young woman was taken by Life Flight after she, along with two others, crashed into the back of an 18 wheeler that was stopped in a moving lane on Saturday night. 

According to authorities, the incident occurred in the moving lane of Beaumont Highway going eastbound around 9:30 p.m. They say the 18 wheeler stopped his truck in the moving lane located in front of a business where he was dropping off his load.

The female driver of the SUV with two other passengers didn't realize the truck was stopped before trying to swerve to avoid the truck. The SUV skidded but slammed into the back end of the 18 wheeler.  

Authorities said the fire department had to remove the three people from the SUV. 

The front passenger, a 21-year old female was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital, and she is in serious but stable condition.  The female driver and a male back passenger were taken by ambulance to a local hospital and are in in stable condition. 

The driver of the 18 wheeler wasn't hurt because he was away from the truck.  

Accident investigators from Harris County stated the 18 wheeler driver will be cited for the accident.

There were no lights along that section of the highway. and authorities say no alcohol was involved.
