Westheimer shut down after woman struck by pickup

HOUSTON -- Houston Police blocked Westheimer's eastbound lanes near Wilcrest after a woman was reportedly struck early Wednesday.

Views from Air 11 show traffic being forced to turn near the incident.

Police initially said the woman was taken to the hospital and later died, but KHOU 11 has learned the woman was listed in critical condition. The victim was said to be undergoing surgery for life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses told police the Red Toyota Tacoma had a green light when the driver hit the woman in a crosswalk. A second vehicle then struck the woman as well.

The pickup's driver stopped to talk with police as the investigation continued, but the second driver fled the scene, police said.
