HOUSTON—Friday morning proved deadly for drivers in Houston.
Around 12:30 a.m., police said a man was speeding on Airport when he lost control just before Scott and slammed into a tree.
The impact was so great that the engine of the car was thrown 25 yards across the street, and debris was strewn across the area.
The driver died at the scene.
The entire street was blocked for more than three hours while HPD investigated.
Just before 1 a.m., another man was speeding in a Honda Accord down Fondren, police said.
He lost control while navigating a curve in the road, just past Moonmist.
The Accord jumped the curb into the median, where police said it slammed through two trees.
Both trees were knocked completely down.
The car split in half, and the driver was trapped inside.
Paramedics extracted the driver and rushed him to Ben Taub, where he died.
All northbound lanes and two southbound lanes were blocked on Fondren while police investigated.
