Do you need help applying for your DTV coupon?

This month, volunteers from Interfaith Ministries and Channel 11 will be at 10 area HEB stores to help Houstonians get ready for the switch to digital TV.

The Spirit of Texas DTV Days will last from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on January 6, 7 and 10.

How do you know if you will be affected by the DTV switch?

If you currently receive your TV signal over the air for free, rather than from a cable or satellite service, you will need a digital converter box to view your favorite programs, beginning on Feb. 17.

Coupons are available to help defray the cost of the converter boxes.  All you have to do is apply. Once you get your coupon, you can bring it back to your local HEB and pay as little as $5 for your new converter box.

DTV test: How to tell if you are ready

If you already have your converter box or are unsure if you need one, you can test your television by tuning in to 11 News on January 6.

During the 6 a.m., 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts that day, we will be broadcasting a special graphic that will only be visible on televisions that are not DTV-ready.

If you see the scrolling colored bars, you need a converter box. If you don't, you're ready for DTV!
