A&M schools push to be 'military friendly'

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Schools in the Texas A&M system are looking to become more military friendly.
The system will announce plans to ensure all nine schools offer enough online classes, distance-learning and easy credit transfers to be considered “military friendly.”
The designation is unofficial and given by a nonprofit, but A&M officials hope it will signal to veterans and their families that A&M wants to work with them.
The A&M system hopes to have the designation in place by April, in time for new GI Bill benefits that starts in August.
Next fall, the GI Bill will cover tuition and fees of any in-state public university, plus offer a monthly housing allowance and money for books and supplies. Currently, veterans get $1,321 per month for all expenses.
