HOUSTON—A man flying into Bush Intercontinental Airport from Turkey was jailed Tuesday after authorities reportedly found $700,000 worth of opium in his luggage.

Authorities say the seizure occurred after airport security detected an unusual thickness in the walls of the man’s luggage.

An X-ray reportedly revealed more than 28 pounds of the illegal drug.

The suspect is in the custody of immigration officials.

His name hasn’t been released.

Opium was found hidden inside a suitcase.

The feds said that this arrest shows how well agencies are working together.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is dedicated to protecting our nation’s borders and upholding the laws of the United States,” said Jeffery O. Baldwin, Sr., CBP Director of Field Operations, Houston.

“This interception is a great example of our success in staying focused on terrorists and terrorist weapons as well as our traditional missions,” he said.

So far this year, local CBP officials have seized a total of 3,198 pounds of narcotics, and more than $4 million in undeclared currency.
