HOUSTON -- Everyday brings more news of our faltering economy, but Anita Williams is taking advantage of some of the news that she's heard.

"I've been pinching pennies for a couple of years now, and I've been waiting for a time such as this to invest in a new home. I plan to do it before the end of the year," said Anita Williams, homebuyer.

Williams is touring some of the 350 Royce Homes for sale.  They are basically listed at the amount that is owed on them.

“In Herron Lakes, there was a house originally listed for $359,000. That house is now $287,000," said Kevin Riles, Real Estate Broker.

Riles is one of many real estate brokers trying to sell the homes to help keep the real estate market moving. The goal is to sell the homes before they go into foreclosure.

Plus, if the homes sell, then the subcontractors who worked on the homes will also get paid.  It turns out that when Royce declared bankruptcy, the contractors were left unpaid.

"When they sell, then all the vendors will be okay," said Riles.

The homes are located all over the area --from Spring to Pearland.

Some of the empty houses have been vandalized, while others are surrounded by empty lots instead of neighbors.  But according to Riles, the price is right and so are the extra incentives.

"The buyer’s closing costs are paid for, and no earnest money is required. For $800 dollars, they'll provide appliances as well," said Riles.
