Bridal store accused of racial, sexual harassment
05:20 PM CST on Wednesday, November 12, 2008
HOUSTON – David’s Bridal is a boutique in which wedding day dreams come true.
Some female employees say it was a total different experience for them.
The women say they lived a nightmare fore more than a year.
They spoke to 11 News only if their identities were concealed.
“I was often told that I was hairy like a monkey,” said one employee.
“She humped on my behind as if she was having sex with me,” said another.
The alleged racist remarks and sexual harassment are spelled out in a series of complaints the former female employees filed with the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission last month.
The women say a female manager constantly degraded and humiliated them. They say it often happened in front of customers.
“She told me all black girls had big ghetto booties and that she wanted one,” said one woman who is suing.
The women say they all tried to seek help within the company, by complaining to a district manager and eventually to human resources. But instead of making things better, they say, the harassment got even worse.

A corporate spokesperson for David’s Bridal released the following statement Wednesday. “We take these matters very seriously, but cannot comment about an ongoing internal investigation or personnel matters, out of respect for the privacy of our employees.”
David’s Bridal went on to say that there is more to the situation than meets the eye, and that the company looks forward to presenting all of the facts to the EEOC.
These women who say they were wronged continue to stand by their claims, and say they want an apology.
