HOUSTON -- Clinton Russell is like so many seniors in that he is satisfied with his old rabbit ears television and not a fan of cable TV.

"I don't care too much for a lot of comical shows or the people who don't want to keep their clothes on," said Russell.

But as of February 17, he wouldn't be able to watch regular TV with his antenna.

“Right now, when it gets kind of fuzzy, I put on foil. That's my secret weapon," said Russell.

But after members from Volunteer Houston installed a free converter box, Russell won’t need to use foil any longer.

The volunteers taught Russell how to use the new remote control to make sure he was comfortable with the new set up.

The volunteers learned how to set up the converters and how to train people on how to use the remote controls through Comcast technicians.  Their goal is to install 75 converter boxes in the community.

Comcast technicians provided the free tutorial to volunteers and are supervising their effort to get digital converter boxes to over 2000 senior citizens in need throughout Harris County.

The free program will continue through March 2009. In the meantime, Volunteer Houston is looking for people to help them install the boxes.
