Quintuplets' dad says delivery was quick

HOUSTON -- Eight is probably enough for the Phillips family of The Woodlands. Kelly Phillips gave birth to five babies at The Woman's Hospital of Texas on Saturday, October 25.
John, Becca, Ali, David and Kate made their television debut on Thursday and doctors say they're doing amazingly well. Three girls and two boys will join their 18-month-old brother at home as soon as they gain a bit more weight.
The smallest baby weighed 3.3 ounces, the biggest 4.12 ounces at birth. They are in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, but are already off breathing machines.
Bill Phillips, the father, said delivering five babies went by faster than expected.
“All babies were born in a minute and a half,” said Bill.
“It worked out to be over six feet of babies coiled up inside me,” said Kelly.
Dr. Kirshon, the couple’s doctor, was thrilled that Kelly was able to carry the babies for 33 weeks. He said that quints are not a common occurrence and that the average gestation for quints is 27.4 weeks.
“We used the same fertility treatment when we had our son. That time we had one healthy, beautiful boy, but this time, we had five," said Kelly.

Kelly met her husband Bill over a game of dominos while students at Texas A&M.
"I'm feeling pretty good and I feel blessed to have babies that are healthy and well," Kelly Phillips said. "And we're anxious to bring them home."
The couple was a little stunned when they first learned they would have five more babies.
"We were in shock, but once we went through the first trimester and started picking names, we were ecstatic," said Kelly.

The Phillips hope to bring their babies home in the next few weeks, and then the job of raising them will begin.
The Howell family had quints four months ago. Ellen Howell had plenty of good advice to give the new quint family.
“I strongly suggest night help for Kelly,” said Ellen.
With five mouths to feed, 50 fingers to wash and 50 toes to cover, taking care of quints is a big job.
"Any time someone offers to help just say, ‘Okay, thank you!’" said Ellen.
With five children, everything expands. Ellen said they had to get a passenger van so that everyone could fit, and Kelly thinks she’ll be purchasing one, too.
But first they have to figure out how to squeeze a family of eight into a three-bedroom house.
