09:43 AM CDT on Wednesday, October 15, 2008
HOUSTON – Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in a southeast Houston nightclub. It was the second officer-involved shooting of the night.
It happened in the 6600 block of Peerless near Old Spanish Trail.
An officer walked to the scene after hearing gunshots while investigating another shooting a block away at Allegheney near Dixie.
Police say about 150 people were in the parking lot, and two of those people were lying on the ground with gunshot wounds.
Witnesses led the police officer to the suspect.
Police say the officer identified himself, drew his weapon and gave the suspect verbal commands to drop his weapon, but the suspect did not comply.
That’s when the suspect pointed his weapon at the officer. The officer fired an undetermined number of shots at the suspect and took cover behind a vehicle.
The suspect fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle.
One of the two victims injured is in critical condition. The other victim is expected to be OK. They are both in a local hospital.
The officer who was involved in the shooting is on administrative leave.
