Four-alarm fire destroys eight units
01:00 PM CDT on Sunday, October 5, 2008
HOUSTON – A four-alarm fire in a southeast Houston apartment complex has left eight families without a home.
Houston fire officials said the fire raced through the common attic of the complex, destroying eight units. All occupants were able to get out safely.
The blaze, which started shortly after 1:00 on Saturday afternoon, also caused some big backups on the Gulf Freeway and feeder roads, making it hard for emergency vehicles to get in and out.
Arson investigators said they believe the fire was an accident.
The Red Cross is helping families displaced by the fire find new homes.
