Food Stamp offices opening on Saturday

AUSTIN - Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) offices in Harris County and Southeast Texas will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday to help hurricane victims apply for disaster food stamps.

Low-income families in disaster areas may be eligible for up to two months of emergency food stamp benefits if they meet income and asset requirements. A family of four earning up to $2,915 this month may qualify for assistance. Applicants also will have to answer questions about their bank account balances, household and expenses. People who provide additional documentation may qualify for benefits for a longer period.

HHSC offices that are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday include:

· Houston: 6118 Scott

· Houston: 12121 Westheimer

· Houston: 1100 Greens Parkway

· Houston: 10060 Fuqua

· Houston: 2110 Telephone Road

· Houston: Abundant Life Cathedral, 11230 Harwin Drive

· Beaumont: 285 Liberty St.

· Beaumont: Paradise Baptist Church, 4390 Fannett Road

· Conroe: 608 N. Loop 336 East

· Huntsville: 306 Highway 190 East

· Lufkin: 1210 S. Chestnut

· Orange: 2222 Gloria Drive

· Port Arthur: 5860 9th Ave., Suite A

· Port Arthur: Mt. Sinai Church, 501 West Thomas Road

HHSC has also set up two locations in Galveston where people can drop off applications:

· Carnival Cruise Parking, Lot A, Harborside Drive & 33rd Street

· 52 Avenue N 1/2
