The City of Kemah Office of Emergency Management used phone, e-mail and text messages to notify displaced residents of the good news.

But officials are telling residents to be very careful.

"As our residents return home, safety continues to be our main priority," said R.W. “Bill” Kerber, Jr., City Administrator.

Throughout Hurricane Ike, The City of Kemah used its mass notification system to alert residents of critical information, such as evacuation notices, the location of local shelters, emergency resources and the opening or closures of schools and businesses

Residents are encouraged to contact the City of Kemah at (281) 334-1611 or go to the official Web site to update their contact information in the database to ensure they are prepared to receive future messages.
