Ex-teacher charged with porn possession

07:05 PM CDT on Saturday, September 20, 2008

Associated Press

SAN ANTONIO -- A former assistant band director at a San Antonio high school has been charged with possessing a large stash of child pornography.

U.S. Attorney Ray Jahn says the FBI found approximately 27,000 images and 1,000 video clips of child pornography in the home of Dennis Joseph Jasso. He will remain jailed until a bail hearing Wednesday.

The 34-year-old Jasso was indicted by a federal grand jury on Wednesday on two counts of distributing child pornography and one count of possessing it. The San Antonio Express-news reports that FBI agents arrested Jasso yesterday and the indictment was unsealed the same day.

One of Jasso’s lawyers, Bobby Barrera, said he had not received any of the evidence and that, in some cases, those in the images might turn out to be of legal age.

Jasso taught at Sam Houston from August 2006 through May 2007, and was an assistant band director. He isn’t suspected of any improprieties with any of the students.

Distributing child pornography carries a punishment of five years to 20 years in prison. Possessing it is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
