KHOU.com staff report

MONTGOMERY COUNTY -- A young contractor was killed Wednesday morning while cutting a tree that had fallen on a power line.

The worker with Mid-South Snynergy was killed near McCaleb Road and Capitol Hill Road.

The 22-year-old was cutting a large tree that was leaning on a power line. As he used a chainsaw to cut the tree, released tension on the electric line caused the large log to fall or roll sideways onto the contractor.

A co-worker working with the victim called for assistance, but the victim died at the scene.

The victim’s identity will not be released until a next of kin has been notified.

This is the third death in Montgomery County due to falling trees related to Hurricane Ike.
