KHOU.com staff report

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- A 10 year-old boy was killed Friday morning when a limb from a falling tree struck him in the head.

It happened outside the victim's Montgomery County home.

The boy’s father was trying to cut down a dead tree in the family’s yard in advance of Hurricane Ike.

When the tree fell, an older brother tried to pull the boy out of the way, but a limb from the tree struck the boy in the head.

The unidentified child was taken by ambulance to Tomball Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy.

The victim was a student at Decker Prairie Elementary School.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, but does not expect to file charges.
