Shelter-in-place order lifted in La Porte after chemical release

A shelter-in-place order has been lifted for businesses in La Porte after an early morning chemical leak.
Workers were asked to stay inside just before 7 a.m. Monday when a rail car began leaking a chemical used to make pesticide.
Fairmont Parkway was closed between Bay Area Boulevard and Highway 146.
At 12:50 p.m. the all clear was given and all roads were open.
All businesses in the area were told to resume operations.
PPG will continue to monitor the situation with the La Porte Fire Department.
Hazmat crews are on scene cleaning up the mess.
The incident occured in an industrial area so no neighborhoods were affected.
The rail car is owned by a company called PPG.
