70-year-old woman becomes a deputy in Montgomery County

MAGNOLIA, Texas -- The Montgomery County Pct. 5 Constable's Office has a new reserve deputy, but she isn't your ordinary rookie. Mary Sikes is 70-years-old and graduated from the Lone Star College Criminal Justice program on Wednesday.

The grandmother said she had always dreamt of being in law enforcement, but that the time was never right to pursue that dream -- until now.

She admitted, though, that her family was not onboard with her decision to become a deputy. At least not at first.

“I think they thought I lost my mind at first, but they have come around,” said Sikes.

Indeed they have, including granddaughter Sarah, who said not only is she proud of her grandmother, but that Mary is proof that she too can pursue her own dreams and make them come true.
