HOUSTON – A suspected multi-state serial burglar is in the hospital following a deadly police chase through Southwest Houston.

A Memorial Villages police officer was chasing the suspect’s blue van after recognizing that it as a vehicle wanted in at least three area burglaries.

“The officer tried to approach the suspect vehicle.  The suspect vehicle evaded and then went into full flight leaving our area and then going into the City of Houston,” said Memorial Villages Police Lt. Bill Sala.

The blue vehicle, police say, then sped into a collision course, hitting two other cars before the deadly accident.

“I saw him coming up to the left of me slammed into the little girl then me,” said Israel Taylor.

“When he hit us he just backed up because he was caught under her bumper then he came toward us and just pushed us through the light,” he said.

Norma Hageney was another victim.

“I was freaked out because I just got my car fixed in same spot where he hit me,” she said.

Police say the suspect then hit an SUV driven by an innocent man who had just pulled out of the driveway of a strip mall where he worked.

That was at Richmond and Tanglewilde.

James Felder heard Monday morning’s accident.

“All you hear is scrrrrrr, then boom! I was like, man why do people do things like this?  Killing innocent people?” he said.

The suspect was taken to Ben Taub Hospital.

Police believe the suspect is connected to two burglaries in the Memorial Village area, one in Hedwig Village, one in Harris County and one in Louisiana.
