Local heroes pull man from burning truck
09:13 PM CDT on Sunday, July 27, 2008
HOUSTON -- Troopers credit some good Samaritans for saving a man's life after he lost control of his truck.
Police say the driver was weaving in and out of lanes on Highway 242 when he lost control of his Ford Ranger. The truck fell to the bottom of a creek and burst into flames.
Five people driving by saw the fire and ran over to help. They pulled the man out of the truck and dragged him across the road to safety.
"Several of us were able to bust the back glass and get the front windshield out. We untangled him from the steering wheel and took him out the back glass. And, by the grace of God, there is one less fatality in Montgomery County," said Perry Orrick, who was one of the men who stopped to help.
DPS says alcohol was not involved in the accident. The man was suffering from low blood sugar.
