Doctors: Viagra a wonder drug for some babies
08:56 AM CDT on Friday, July 25, 2008
HOUSTON -- Some babies in Florida are taking Viagra to help relieve their lung problems.
It may seem weird, but doctors say the little blue pill is a wonder drug for babies born with pulmonary hypertension.
The condition is marked by increased blood flow into the lung, which causes the arteries in the lung to constrict or tighten.
Viagra relaxes the blood vessels, allowing more blood to flow.
The pill is crushed and given to the babies in liquid form.
