HOUSTON -- An unruly restaurant patron shot and killed a manager at a Houston-area Chili’s Thursday night, said investigators.

It happened around 11 p.m. at the restaurant on North Sam Houston Parkway and Wilson.

According to deputies, Michael Hare, a regular customer at the Chili’s, was at the restaurant having drinks when he started hitting on a member of the waitstaff.

The manager, Luis Monroy, asked him to leave, and he did.

But when Monroy walked the waitress out to her car later in the evening, Hare returned.

He allegedly shot the manager several times before fleeing in his vehicle.

Monroy, 35, died on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant.

Deputies were called to the scene, and as they were gathering evidence when Hare returned again in his car.

The female employee pointed him out to deputies, and he was arrested.

Hare, 25, has been charged with murder.

He has a prior criminal history with charges including robbery and drug charges.

Neighbors say Monroy, a father of three, was a nice person.

“Now these kids have no father and I can’t imagine my kids getting news like that would be very, very sad,” said Jose Manzanres. He was Menroy’s neighbor.

Monroy had worked for Chili’s for 14 years.

“The entire Chili’s family is extremely saddened by this tragedy. Luis was a true example of the ChiliHead values of fun, hard work and caring—and he will be greatly missed,” Chili’s President Todd Diener said in a statement.
