Dolly damage minor in Galveston
06:04 PM CDT on Wednesday, July 23, 2008
GALVESTON, Texas – Jamaica Beach on Galveston Island had a lucky night and avoided any damage from Hurricane Dolly. Earlier this week, officials were worried about the threat of high tides, but the morning tides have come and gone without creating much destruction.
The only homes still under threat are the ones that no longer have the protection of sand dunes and sit on the surf line, including those on Bermuda Beach. These homes are slowing losing their battle with the gulf, but the erosion has nothing to do with Dolly. It’s a daily battle. In fact, locals say they are pleased the storm hasn’t brought them anything more than what they consider a normal stormy day.
Galveston Beach is still being hit by rain squalls from the outer bands of the storm and wind.
