02:09 PM CDT on Saturday, July 19, 2008
LONGVIEW, Texas -- Authorities say high speeds and wet roads combined to start a chain reaction of multiple wrecks along a stretch of Interstate 20 in East Texas.
No fatalities were reported in the multiple-car pileup last night in Longview. But Department of Public Safety spokesman Bob Lindley said two people were flown to the hospital after the wreck.
DPS spokeswoman Jean Dark says one of the victims was a little boy who suffered a cracked skull.
The series of accidents occurred after authorities restricted the flow of traffic to one lane along the interstate, according to news reports.
One young mother had to be cut out of her car after it became trapped beneath the back end of an 18-wheeler.
Witnesses said one trucker was able to walk away from his rig after it flipped over and came to a stop upside down.
