HOUSTON -- A suspect has been charged with murder in Wednesdays's rush hour shooting that left a Houston man dead.

Police say Gerald David, 22, got into an argument with the victim at a gas station.

Erroll Paige, 34, left the station with his wife and daughter.

David followed the family's SUV and shot Paige on the freeway feeder road near Rankin Road.

The wife told investigators they were trying to get to an HPD substation to report that David was following them.

“I was behind the car when he shot into the car,” said eyewitness Glen Jackson. “They were shaken up. One girl had glass all over her and the other was in the back seat.”

Emergency crews worked on Paige for several minutes before rushing him to the hospital. Doctors weren't able to save him.

David was arrested late Wednesday night.

Relatives said there was a history of tension between the victim and the shooting suspect. They did not understand why the anger was taken to a new level on the freeways of Houston.
