KHOU.com staff report

HARRIS COUNTY -- A suspect allegedly armed with a knife was shot by a Harris County sheriff's deputy Monday afternoon, according to the sheriff's office.

Kevin Reece's 11 News report

Deputies rushed to the home in the 1800 block of Charriton after an 11-year-old girl called 911 to say her mother was being attacked by her uncle.

They got the woman and her daughter out safely, but the man refused to come out.

They tried negotiating with him for about 45 minutes.

When that failed, deputies forced their way inside the home using a ballistic shield to protect themselves.

Captain John Martin, with the Harris County Sheriff's Office, said the man was swinging an ax at the deputies.

They tried using a Taser on him, but that didn't work so two deputies shot the man multiple times.

The suspect was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was last reported in critical condition.
