Quanell X: Time with slain kids' father 'like diving into the depths of hell'
12:04 PM CDT on Monday, June 23, 2008
HOUSTON -- With the help of prime suspect Randy Sylvester Sr., Quanell X found the bodies of 7-year-old Randy Jr. and 3-year-old Denim burned in a wooded area in Southeast Houston Friday night.
The children vanished on Father’s Day, launching a frantic, six-day search by ground and by air. The whole time, Sylvester was a suspect.
“You all are not worried about my kids. If not, you all would be looking for them too. You feel me?” Sylvester yelled at reporters before he was taken into custody last week.
While police suspect Sylvester is responsible for killing the kids and dumping their bodies near a railroad overpass that crosses over Old Galveston Road, Quanell X said he gave the accused father the benefit of the doubt at first.
“He said, 'They have the wrong guy, they have the wrong guy (that) its not me,'” said Quanell X.
But that all changed when Sylvester invited the activist into his apartment, a place Sylvester called his “dog house." According to Quanell X, the place was filled with porn, was filthy and was used as a place for Sylvester to do drugs.
“I say, man to man, you would have your kids in here, with all these porno movies laying on the table like this,” said Quanell X.
Quanell wouldn’t go into more details, but other things he learned in that apartment changed his mind about Sylvester.
“I know in my heart that the brother was not innocent,” said Quanell X.
After that, Sylvester led Quanell X to the burned bodies of the children. One was found inside a wooden chest and the other in a suitcase.
But, according to the activist, the most distrubing part was that Sylvester seemed to want someone to see the burned remains of his children.
“The closest I can get is straight cold blooded,” said Quanell X.
