HOUSTON -- Police claim that Thomas Ramirez tried to hire a hitman to kill a classmate. On Monday, prosecutors accused of the 17-year-old of actually having a “hit list.”

In an exclusive jailhouse interview with 11 News hours after his court appearance, Ramirez apologized for his actions and while not admitting guilt, said that he “never wanted anyone to die.”

He also denied prosecutors’ claims that he targeted more than one person.

Up until last week, Ramirez was a sophomore at Pasadena’s Sam Rayburn High School. Today he is charged with solicitation of capital murder, accused of offering $150 and some drugs to have his girlfriend’s best friend killed because she didn’t support the couple’s relationship.

His father admits that Ramirez is “a good kid who makes stupid decisions,” and that sometimes, “he doesn’t think.”

In his off-camera interview with 11 News, Ramirez said it was “his secret” as to how he went about finding a hitman. He also acknowledged that he worried that the hitman could be a police officer.

Police said Ramirez at first approached another student about having the girl killed. That student called police, who sent an undercover officer to meet with Ramirez at Strawberry Park on June 4.

Despite the worries that he was meeting with a cop and his concerns about not wanting anyone to die, police said Ramirez still went ahead and tried to hire someone to pull off the hit.

In his interview Monday afternoon, Ramirez also reached out to apologize to the girl who was allegedly his target.

“I’m sorry for what I did and I hope she forgives me,” he said.

The teen said too that his full story would be heard in court.

If convicted, Ramirez faces a possible life sentence.
