HOUSTON -- Scarborough High School in northwest Houston is on lockdown after shots were fired near the school Tuesday afternoon.
Houston Independent School District spokesman Terry Abbott said there were almost no kids in the school at the time the lockdown was ordered about 3 p.m. Classes had been dismissed at about 12:30 p.m. after exams, school district officials said.
Houston police told 11 News that a group of kids was at a home near the high school when one of the teens brandished a weapon. When a woman in the home came outside to inquire what was going on, the teen boy reportedly fired the gun one time into the ground and took off toward the high school.
Houston and HISD police surrounded the high school and searched for the teen gunman. One person was taken into custody, but it was unclear if the teen in handcuffs was the youngster sought in the shooting.
The lockdown was lifted at about 5:30 p.m.
No one was hurt in the shooting.
