When your grandfather happens to be Dr. Neil Frank, it’s a big deal to all your friends.

"It's funny watching my friends, like they have no idea and my granddad comes and I am talking to him and they say, ‘What are you doing? Dr. Neil Frank is your grand dad?’” said one of Doc’s grandkids Brandon Tucker.

"Friends will be like, ‘Hey isn’t that Dr. Neil Frank,’” said another of Dr. Neil’s grandkids Jordan Tucker. “I will walk over and give him a hug, and friends are like, ‘what was that?’”

Doc has 10 grandchildren and seven of them live in the Houston area.

"I can remember from Thanksgiving or special meal he never (sat) down with us,” said granddaughter Kerryl Ann Frank. “He was always at the high chair either holding an infant or feeding one, the grandchildren came first.”

He introduced them to water skiing and golf

"Golf wise, he is always working with me, he is great coach,” said granddaughter Kori Frank. “(I) won second in state. I owe it all to him because he taught me how to play."

Turns out the calm forecaster on air, is also a calm grandfather.

"Patient, he is very patient with me,” said grandson Dustin Tucker. “Growing up not always patient, he is always patient"

But while a popular Houston TV figure, his grandchildren said he took his grandfatherly roll first.

11 News: What do you think about granddad being on TV?

Granddaughter Alyssa Tucker: I think that's pretty cool."

11 News: Yes it is pretty cool, but if he wasn't that guy on TV?

Alyssa: He would still be granddad, and that is all that matters.

That is a sentiment across the board among the Frank grandkids.

Mitchell Frank: You know sometimes, (friends will say) ‘Hey, I saw your granddad on TV.’ Oh, that's right, it's something I am proud of. But I see him as a loving caring person in my life."

"I don't really think of it as big deal, but a lot of people do,” said grandson Forrest Frank. “I guess it is pretty cool."
