HPD: Hit-and-run driver clips car, sends it sliding 270 feet on freeway wall
08:15 AM CDT on Tuesday, May 13, 2008
HOUSTON -- A woman is in serious condition after the car she was driving was clipped by an unknown driver on the Southwest Freeway early Tuesday morning.
Around 12:45 a.m., a speeding car hit the rear of the car, sending it sideways into the retaining wall at Weslayan, according to witnesses. The victim's car slid for about 270 feet.
"Unfortunately, she has pretty serious injuries," HPD Officer Michael Wick said. "They had to get her out without too much pain because of her injuries. They did cut the top of the car off."
She was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in serious, but stable, condition. A paramedic at the scene said the woman's feet were broken.
The only information police have about the car that hit hers is that it was dark-colored.
