Montgomery County investigators said Eliseo Maldonado, 23, and Gregg Lamon, 32, were arrested and charged with criminally negligent homicide Friday afternoon. Sheriff’s officials said they believe the pair was target practicing in the woods near the camp when a wayward bullet struck Hook.

According to police, it was just after 8 p.m. when Hook and his wife were barbecuing in front of their travel trailer at the KOA campground on Lake Conroe when a shot rang out.

Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies said Hook was hit by a stray bullet in the stomach. He later died despite the efforts of EMS.

Witnesses told investigators in the past few days they’ve heard gunshots east of the campground.

Hook, a construction supervisor, lived in the trailer as he and his wife traveled from town to town as he worked on various projects. He was working on a church construction project in Montgomery when he was shot Thursday night.
