10:54 AM CDT on Wednesday, April 30, 2008
HOUSTON -- A single-engine airplane crash-landed about a mile short of the runway at Hobby Airport Tuesday night. No one was injured, but the plane’s nose crumpled after the landing.
The single-engine Cherokee was on approach to the airport when it reported problems. At about 8 p.m. it crash-landed in an area near Telephone Road and Almeda Genoa, 1.2 miles shy of the nearest runway.
Three people and a dog were onboard. They were returning from a fishing trip in Port Lavaca. The pilot told authorities that as they neared Hobby, the engine just stopped.
The FAA will investigate what led to the crash.
