Got gold? Let's party
12:42 AM CDT on Friday, April 25, 2008
It's actually pretty simple.
A little wine, a few snacks, a scale and a lot old jewelry.
“I think it’s wonderful you know,” said jewelry owner Anna Goldsteen. “I've had this jewelry for years and never saw it. Never wore it and now I sold it and made some cash.”
That's right she made money at this party. All it took was a few trinkets.
“Just an old wedding band and white gold and yellow gold and an engagement ring and a few charms and it's $200 dollars total,” Kellen Wilson bragged of her cash take from the jewel box booty.
Jeweler Mike Plummer grades and weighs the gold and silver.
“I think all of us have a chain a bracelet that lying (around) and that's been there for years and people wanna sell it and make some money,” said Sharlene Barris, who organizes Gold Parties.
Best part of the get togethers? Checks are cut on the spot.
“Everybody’s heard about gold at $900 and a $1,000 (an ounce) and that's forced them to go to their jewelry box and they see two or three pieces and it s money for them,” said Plummer. And in these tougher economic times, it’s a way to make some easy money.
These ladies say this is a safe and fun way to sell their old jewelry.
Plummer already has a dozen other parties scheduled and expects many more.
