Details emerge on Jenna Bush's wedding
08:46 AM CDT on Wednesday, April 16, 2008
In less than a month, first daughter Jenna Bush walks down the aisle – or whatever passes for an aisle at the president's 1,600-acre Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford. The wedding is expected to be a small, private affair, but not so small that the president's contemporary, honey-colored limestone house with its many windows can accommodate all the guests. A tent will be erected for the May 10 nuptials.
Women's Wear Daily is reporting that designer Oscar de la Renta , a favorite of the first lady, has created a wedding gown for Jenna. The bride's 14 attendants will wear short chiffon dresses by designer and Bush family friend Lela Rose. Just a little background: Lela is now a hot New York designer, but she grew up in Dallas. Her father, Rusty Rose, was W.'s business partner in the Texas Rangers.
As for her bridesmaids, there is only one: her twin sister, Barbara , who will be maid of honor. In a soon-to-be-released interview with Vogue magazine, Jenna reports that she considered a White House wedding. "That's not really my personality," she told the magazine. "There's a glamour to it, I know, but [groom] Henry [Hager] and I are far less glamorous than the White House." The 200 guests will stay for dinner and dancing after the 7:30 p.m. service.
The word is also out that Jenna and husband-to-be have spent $440,000 for a 128-year-old row house in Baltimore. This will place Jenna in close proximity to her aunt, the president's kid sister, Doro Koch , who lives in nearby Bethesda. Doro has had a little experience with presidential weddings. When her father, George H.W. Bush, was president, she married Bobby Koch at Camp David. Now that her brother is president, she is a regular guest at the president's Catoctin Mountains retreat.
