HOUSTON -- Former District Court Judge Pat Lykos has defeated flamboyant prosecutor Kelly Siegler in the Republican runoff for Harris County District Attorney.
With 97 percent of the precincts reporting, Lykos had 53 percent of the votes compared to 47 percent for Siegler.
After hearing the early voting results, Siegler told 11 News reporter Courtney Zubowski that she did everything she could and she's proud of the campaign they put together in just three months.
The winner of the Republican runoff will face Democrat Clarence Bradford in November.
Bradford is a former Houston police chief who is now an attorney.
The winner will replace Chuck Rosenthal who resigned from office last month after a series of scandals involving illicit e-mails, campaigning with taxpayer resources and allegations of lying under oath.
11 News Defenders were the first to report on the racist and pornographic e-mails found on Rosenthal's county computer. Some were sent by Siegler’s husband, physician Sam Siegler.
Kelly Siegler attempted to distance herself from the e-mails but has been taking heat for her unorthodox, rule-bending courtroom style.
Lykos said the office needs a leader who’s not connected to the scandals.
Lykos will face Democrat C.O. Bradford, a former Houston police chief whom Rosenthal once charged with perjury. Bradford was accused of lying under oath about the chastising of a subordinate, but a judge summarily acquitted him after prosecutors laid out their case.
Tuesday night, Bradford released the following statement:
“I have the experience, education and training required to bring integrity and fairness to the District Attorney’s Office.
“We can not just simply pass the leadership position to another party insider. That is what led us to the problems in the DA’s office today.
"We need to end the good ol’ boys and girls network that has mismanaged Harris County for so many years. Pat Lykos is a part of that network. Lykos also has no management experience. As a judge, she clashed often with the DA’s office and had a high number of cases overturned on appeal. Her personnel files reveal that her supervisors believed she had no leadership or team-building skills."
