Sad tale: Bellaire cat vanishes just before military family's move

HOUSTON -- Moving to a brand new city is never easy for children, but the moving day was downright heartbreaking for a Bellaire girl and her younger brother.

Toby was last seen near Bellaire High School in Bellaire.

Emily's dad is in the military and had been called back to duty in Pensacola, Florida.

As the family was loading the last boxes on the moving truck Friday, their cat Toby darted out the front door.

They searched surrounding streets, but weren't able to spend much time looking for Toby because they had to be in Florida by Sunday -- duty called.

In an e-mail to 11 News, Emily said she and her family are worried sick about Toby, and they feel helpless because they're now 560 miles away.

"He is not an outside cat. He is declawed on the front so we are worried, as you can imagine, about his well-being," Emily said. "He has such a personality... and I just can't imagine him there by himself."

Toby is a light grey tabby with green eyes and a royal blue collar with a bell. He was last seen on Holt Street near Rice in front of Bellaire High School.

The family is offering a $150 reward for Toby's safe return. If you've seen Toby, please call Monique, the family's realtor, at 713-373-2501.
