New TSU president wants to 'improve the quality of the students'

HOUSTON -- The new president of Texas Southern University is setting big goals for himself.

At a meet-and-greet with faculty Paul Rudley said his first order of business is to stop admitting everyone who applies.

“I think it’s appropriate for us to improve the quality of the students we receive at Texas Southern, and of course, if you improve the quality on the front end, more students will graduate on time and our graduation rates should go up as well,” Rudley said.

TSU’s last president, Priscilla Slade, was fired for financial mismanagement.

Rudley says he’ll turn the university around in six months to a year.
