Police on Saturday said a second person could be charged in connection with the death of Alijah Mullis, the 3-month old baby whose body was found near the Galveston Seawall last week.

Travis Mullis is charged with capital murder in the beating death of his baby son.

They have not said who that person might be.

Travis Mullis, the baby’s father, confessed to killing his infant son by stomping on his head three or four times until he felt the child’s skull collapsing.

He turned himself in to police Friday night in Philadelphia, saying he wanted to talk about “something” that he did in Texas.

Galveston police have said the baby’s mother, Caren Kohberger, is not a suspect, but that they want to talk to her.

Late Friday night, Galveston police announced that Travis Mullis had turned himself in to authorities in Philadelphia. Click on video to watch the Galveston PD press conference.

She has reportedly retained a lawyer, but that lawyer has yet to contact the authorities.

Galveston police will head to Pennsylvania Sunday morning to start the extradition process for Mullis.  They also said they want to search his vehicle for evidence.

He’s been charged with capital murder and is being held on $1 million bond.

It’s expected to be a week or two before officials will be able to get Mullis, 21, back to Texas.

Even though Mullis confessed, police say the medical examiner still has to confirm Alijah’s identity scientifically, because it’s a capital murder case.

In Alvin, a small memorial was held at a church Sunday for the baby.

While only close friends and neighbors attended, those there said Baby Alijah touched the hearts of many people in his short life.

Alijah, his father and his mother had been staying with a couple in a trailer in Alvin for the last few months.

While Kohberger is not speaking publicly, those close to her released the following statement Sunday:

“We are glad Travis did the right thing and turned himself in.  We pray the legal system will do its job and justice will be swift.  But our main focus is Alijah.  We want to remember Alijah as the beautiful baby boy he was.”

Investigators say they don’t believe the baby was killed inside a home, but didn’t release any additional details.

But they have said they believe the young father lived a dual life, and that his friends described him as “weird.”

“He was kind of a punk kid,” said one friend, who asked not to be identified. “He did some schystering, some finagling, and some bad candid deals.”

Mullis reportedly had a troubled work history as well. Investigators say he was fired from a Houston Walgreens, because he had problems controlling his temper.

He fared no better at a picture frame shop, where both Travis and his friend worked two years ago.

“He had kind of a nasty mouth with customers and my boss fired him for that,” his pal said.

The store’s manager would not speak on camera. But she confirmed Travis’ employment lasted just three short months, and that he always seemed to be preoccupied by personal issues and drama.

Police say Mullis got to Philadelphia by lying to members of churches along the way to get money to pay for his travel expenses.

He also faces criminal charges in Brazoria County for allegedly enticing a child and forcing the 9-year-old to take her clothes off.
