A man was killed during an armed robbery attempt at a North Houston apartment complex parking lot Monday night. A suspect in the fatal robbery was arrested a few hours after the shooting.

Police said he came to the scene of the shooting and was identified by one of the surviving victims and an eyewitness.

The shooting occurred at the Royal Phoenician Gardens Apartment Complex in the 16900 block of Northchase in the Greenspoint area of the city about 6:45 p.m.

Police said the victim and a female friend had just returned to the parking lot after having dinner. They were still in the car when the robber approached the driver’s side window with a gun and tapped on the window demanding money.

Investigators said that at first an argument between the couple in the car and the armed robber broke out and escalated to the point that the robber busted the driver’s side window of the vehicle and opened fire.

The female driver of the car ducked, but the male passenger was struck in the head. The robbery suspect then made off with the woman’s purse.

Police said while they were on scene investigating the incident that a man matching the description of the suspect arrived on scene. Police took him into custody and after a sidewalk identification by the woman driver of the car and an eyewitness to the shooting, took the unidentified man into custody.
