More is being revealed about an online system that gives school officials a heads-up about problems on campus.

Details about the program

AnComm, a local company, is using the software. AnComm stands for anonymous communications.

Their service is a program called “Talk About It.”

It’s a system that is in place in more than 125 middle and high schools in 18 states right now.

It allows students to report school problems anonymously by text on their cell phones, or by computer.

“The children have all the information we need to keep them safe but we have to find ways to draw that information from them,” said AnComm President Carter B. Meyers.

If this system sounds familiar, well, it should.

It’s how Spring ISD teacher Carlos Valencia was caught in December.

A student learned of his alleged sexual relationship with another student, reported it and the Spanish teacher was arrested.

This is one of numerous examples of how the system is put to use in schools.

“This year we’ve received more than 14,000 tips from our 125 schools,” said Meyers.

Officials also uncovered a variety of student issues they didn’t imagine.

In fact, they believe they have prevented as many as 40 attempted suicides at schools across the country.

“Especially when we interdict a suicide we think that that’s, as well as the administration in that school, we all agree that’s worth the price,” said AnComm CEO Louis Brandt.

It’s a price that’s being pitched to any school that will listen. They want to let students know someone is ready to listen to them too.
