Putting nitrogen in your tires could save you cash and keep you safe

If you’re like most people, it’s been a while since you last checked your tire pressure – even though doing so could save lives and money.
But what if someone told you putting nitrogen in your tires instead of air could make things a little easier … Would you do it?
You may not have seen a nitrogen air station yet, but chances are, you will very soon.
Putting nitrogen in tires is a whole new concept, but some people say it will be a common practice in the near future.
In fact, some believe in the idea so much they’re opening businesses around it.
Angel Alanis is one of the believers.
“The purpose of nitrogen is to keep your tires inflated longer,” he said.
And he’s opened the N-2 Station to bring the gas to the masses.
Because it’s denser than regular air, the nitrogen keeps tires inflated at the right pressure longer.
Experts say properly inflated tires are safer and improve your car’s gas mileage.
“The key is keeping your tires inflated properly all the time. And unfortunately for 85 percent of Americans in our United States, they don’t do that. So that’s where nitrogen comes in the picture,” Alanis said.
He charges about $40 to fill tires with nitrogen, and refills are free. Many new tires already come with the gas, but older tires can be filled with it as well.
But if you decide to start using nitrogen in your tires, keep this in mind: It’s not that easy to find … yet.
Alanis says he plans to open more nitrogen shops around the city, and he expects other businesses to do the same.
